We’re all into safety and Anderson Behel in Santa Clara, CA, because sure—we meet by accident—but we want you to be one of our customers for many years to come. One of the main reasons for car accidents is related to blind spots. The problems begin when drivers position their side mirrors incorrectly, offering a limited view of what’s happening behind them and to their sides.
At Anderson Behel, the premier body shop for collision repairs in the South Bay, we’re offering you several tips for a much wider field of view and thereby making your driving (especially during the holiday season) more safe. Let’s eliminate those dangerous blind spots!
1. Driver’s side mirror: Rest your head against the driver’s side window. Adjust the mirror so that you can just barely see the side of your car.
2. Rearview mirror: Sit up straight with your head positioned as it will be while driving. Adjust the mirror so you can see out the entire rear window.
3. Passenger side mirror: Lean toward the center of the car. Set the mirror so you can see only the very edge of the car. Test it: Drive in the right lane of a highway with multiple lanes. Look in the left mirror and watch as a car approaches you in the left lane. As it passes, its image should disappear off the outer edge of the mirror just as it appears in your peripheral vision. Fine tune the adjustment if necessary to achieve this. Now drive in the left lane and use the same procedure to check the right mirror adjustment. With typical mirror adjustments, the approaching vehicle disappears from the side mirror before it enters you peripheral vision.
It will probably take several times to become completely comfortable with this new setup, but once you get used to it, your daily commute will become much safer! Happy Holidays from Anderson Behel, Santa Clara’s top-rated collision facility that stresses quality, accountability and service!
