He values customer service and has a snake as a pet!

How long have you been with AB and how many years of industry experience do you have?

I have worked for Anderson Behel since July 21st, 2004.I've been in the automotive industry for 15 years.

Favorite part of the job?

My favorite aspect of my job is the opportunity to meet people from different cultures and from different parts of the world. Learning new things everyday that doesn't necessarily have to do with my industry, but with everyday life, helps me to grow as a person.

What do you do when you're not working at AB?

Playing my drums with my band or outside enjoying the great weather the Bay Area has to offer.

Major interests?

Technology and music top my list.

What are the 3 things you want to do in your life?

1.) I would love the opportunity for my band I to play in front of a big crowd of cheering fans 2.) The ability to start a fire by rubbing two sticks together 3.) I'd love to go into space one day.

What sports teams do you follow?

The San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants and the San Jose Sharks?

What was the title of the last book you read?

Oryx and Crake. It’s kind of a post apocalyptic novel. Very interesting read.

Favorite movie?

Back to the Future

Favorite TV Shows?

The Walking Dead is Awesome!

Pets and their names?

My Ball Python named Bob.

Favorite outdoor activities?

My favorite outdoor activity would be BBQ-ing with my friends.

Magazines or newspapers you read?

Drum Magazine and Popular Science are a few of my favorites, oh and I read the San Jose Mercury News online.

If you could have any kind of car, what would you get and why?

It’s a tough choice between the DeLorean from Back to the Future for obvious reasons or the Flubber Mobile from the Absent-Minded Professor so I can just fly over the red light holding up traffic.

If you could have lunch with anyone (dead or alive) who would it be?

I would love to have lunch with Nikola Tesla, so I can ask him if free wireless electricity is really possible.

What are some of the customer service things you're proud of at AB?

I enjoy when a customer comes walking in and is visibly upset at the fact they need our services, and it turns out to be something that I can fix right there on the spot, by either polishing the house paint off of their fender or clipping the front bumper back onto the car. The look of relief when they find it its nothing at all is priceless.

What are some of the changes you've seen in this industry over the years and how has AB reacted to these?

The industry is constantly changing and everyday is a new learning experience, even for the most seasoned estimators and technicians. Anderson Behel has kept up with the changes to our industry by offering job specific education and training courses to maintain the highest level of workmanship as well as workplace comraderie with monthly birthday celebrations and delicious cake.

Why We’re Members of the The California Autobody Association

AB's Owner David Mello Walks the Walk at the CAA

The California Autobody Association (CAA) is a non-profit trade organization made up of roughly 1,000 individual and independent businesses within the automobile collision repair industry. The main focus of the CAA is to enable the auto body industry to survive and succeed by helping its members produce a quality repair for the consumer at a fair price for a fair profit. By being involved in the CAA, body shop owners show they care about the future of this industry and will always strive to make it better for all involved.

David Mello, the owner of Anderson Behel has long been a member of the CAA since 1989 when he purchased the shop. He has also been a key officer in the Santa Clara Chapter of CAA (SC-CAA) and also at a state level. By working with other leading body shop owners and representing the collision industry in Sacramento, Mello has played a pivotal part in his local chapter and statewide.

Current SC-CAA President Randy Greenblat lauded Mello for his service and dedication to the CAA. “David Mello is one of those people who wants a better collision industry and that’s why he got involved at the state level, where real change can happen. He’s held every position at the state level, including president in 2002. He was also the Santa Clara Chapter’s president in 1997 and he was just recently named as the organization’s Member of the Year in 2011. Without go-to guys like Mello in organizations such as the CAA, they couldn’t succeed in this business and perform their missions the way they do. David is accountable, dedicated and his integrity is unquestioned, and that’s why I’m happy to be his friend and his associate.”

Yelpers Tell Our Story

Family Car

"Success in any business is built one customer at a time!" -Andrew Carnegie

We always appreciate it when satisfied customers give us top reviews on Yelp. If you’ve had a good experience here at Anderson-Behel, we always appreciate it when we see good feedback. We look at these reviews carefully on a regular basis, so that we can improve our system and our customer service, if needed. All the hard work pays off when we get praise like this:

"I highly recommend Anderson Behel body shop. After my 2003 Honda Pilot was rear ended last July the responsible party's insurance company recommended I come here for a quote. I was impressed from my first phone conversation through all the phone updates and emailed progress photos of the work being done. Before I went to the shop I was thinking about getting other quotes because that's the type of person I am, but once I arrived and experienced their excellent customer service and efficiency, I was sold on them. I cannot say enough nice things about this company. Mariah at the front desk is so wonderful and the other folks that assisted me were also great. What was also highly impressive is the prices they charged the insurance company (you'd think they would jack them up right?). The costs were so reasonable that I said to myself if I'm ever at fault in an accident or need a body shop repair, THIS is the body shop I'm coming to without question. Fair pricing and the most excellent customer service I've ever experienced (even better than some high end businesses I've patronized)."

-A 5-Star Yelp Review from a customer from Sunnyvale, CA

"I recently had my car repaired and had a wonderful experience! It's my second time using Anderson Behel. My car was in a pretty bad accident after a moving truck ripped off the side of the car. However, today my car looks brand new and I trust that everything was fixed correctly and with quality. On top of the quality work, this shop provided amazing customer service! Mariah would give me frequent status updates and made sure everything was hassle free for me. I didn't even have to worry about my rental car. She took it back for me! If your car needs work, come here!"

-A 5-Star Yelp Review from a customer from Santa Clara, CA

"Ok Fast Forward 5 years and no car, why in the world would I need to go to Anderson Behel. Oh let's be honest folks I am a single woman looking for love and I keep hoping Anderson Behel will start a singles group. No, but honestly, why am I reviewing Anderson Behel again, my work. I may not drive but we had a time where every vehicle needed something somewhere done to it. Who else do I recommend and research and call Anderson Behel when something "happens" whether its covered by insurance or just a ding I will check in with Anderson Behel. This last time was for a company vehicle and even though I didn't have an appointment and I called like 5 times each and every time I have "stop" by or "called" to check something I am treated with respect, told honestly what is wrong with the car and how it can be fixed. I am greeted when I drive up never told "could you wait over there" and whatever the cause/concern the issue is addressed and I learn something. So yeah I may not own a car anymore but when I even drive a zip car I may stop by Anderson case there is a singles group mixer going on ;)"

Congrats to Our Local ROPs

on Friday, 08 March 2013.

Hats Off to Our Regional Automotive Tech Schools

ROPs are technical schools that educate today's techs for both collision and mechanical disciplines. By learning the fundamentals of collision repair, body shops in Nor Cal can hire these young professionals as they enter the automotive field. With all of the new technologies, this profession is more coveted than ever before.

As they displayed their skills at a regional SkillsUSA competition on January 26 at Eden Area ROP in Hayward, Calif., top students from three automotive tech schools vied for medals and a trip to the state finals in San Diego, Calif., on April 4-7. Thirty-five high school and college students studying automotive collision repair from Eden Area ROP, Central County Occupational Center (CCOC) in San Jose, Calif. and Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, Calif. competed in two categories—collision repair and autobody re-finishing/paint. With 12 medal winners overall, all of the schools were well-represented, but in the end Eden Area ROP took eight medals, under the direction of Head Instructor Daniel Pareja.

SkillsUSA is a highly-respected national organization for students in trade, industrial, technical and health occupations education. It sponsors the SkillsUSA regional, state and national competitions annually, designed to test the skills needed for a successful entry level performance in given occupational fields, including collision repair.

At Anderson Behel, we strongly support our Bay Area ROPs and the SkillsUSA competitions nationwide. Good luck to all of the students from Eden Area ROP and Central County Occupational Center (CCOC), as they proceed to the state finals in San Diego!

My dad brought me up with the understanding of treating folks the way you would like to be treated, I have applied this to every situation I come across. Whatever type of personality you run across in a customer service business, they are only wanting one thing, great customer service. Listen, make direct eye contact and engage in the reason they are in your business, make them proud to have been given, or in some cases found via the internet your business. What are some of the changes you've seen in this industry over the years and how has AB reacted to these? Wow another question that could take all day. Consolidation, not only with collision center’s but the insurance carriers. Performance indicators are getting more critical to the success and failure of any one collision center.
